The United Nations

Introduction

  • ⦁    Dr. Majed met with: Mohamed Khiari the Assistant Secretary-General for the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific; Elizabeth Spehar the Assistant Secretary-General for Peacebuilding Support; Stéphane Dujarric the Spokesperson for Secretary-General; Volker Türk the Under-Secretary-General for Policy; Melissa Fleming the Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications; Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism; Christopher Sharrock the Vice President of UN Affairs and International Organisations.
  • ⦁   Vital agendas were discussed in these meetings like the Afghanistan case, the energy crisis, role of media on sending political messages, the New Agenda for Peace, and the contribution of the private sector to peace, security and stability. They also discussed Qatar’s role in peace efforts, counterterrorism, and in mediation and conflict resolution.

Think-Tanks

  • ⦁    Dr. Majed had meetings with four high profile think-tanks personnel: from Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs, NYU Center on International Cooperation, International Peace Institute, and Manhattan Institute.
  • ⦁   They discussed the State of Qatar soft power, its proactive role in fighting climate change and use of clean energy, and the State of Qatar role in mediation and conflict resolution.
